Grand Seiko introduces the Spring Drive Caliber 9RB2, marking a new era in precision watchmaking. Carrying the new U.F.A. (Ultra Fine Accuracy) designation, the movement achieves an extraordinary annual accuracy of ±20 seconds—the most precise mainspring-powered wristwatch movement available today.
At 37mm in diameter, the SLGB003 is the smallest Spring Drive 9R series model yet, offering a balanced and comfortable fit for the wrist while showcasing Grand Seiko’s hallmark craftsmanship.
The Next Generation of Spring Drive
The Caliber 9RB2 combines traditional mainspring energy with advanced electronic regulation. Each quartz oscillator is aged for three months and tested across multiple temperatures, with thermo-compensation data stored in the IC for consistent performance. Both the oscillator and sensor are vacuum-sealed for added protection.
A regulation switch, included for the first time in a Spring Drive movement, allows adjustments during after-sales service—ensuring long-term precision for decades of wear.
A Dial Inspired by Shinshu Winters
The SLGB003 draws inspiration from the frost-covered forests near the Shinshu Watch Studio. Its silver-tinged pale blue dial reflects the icy landscapes seen in clear winter air, paired with a striking tempered blue seconds hand that glides seamlessly across the surface. At 6 o’clock, the inscription “SPRING DRIVE UFA” marks the technical achievement inside.
Evolution 9 Style and Comfort
As part of the Evolution 9 Collection, the SLGB003 features bold hands, grooved indexes, and a distortion-free Zaratsu-polished case with alternating hairline finishes. Its low center of gravity ensures comfort, while the titanium construction makes it approximately 30% lighter than stainless steel.
The bracelet comes with a newly developed three-step micro-adjustment clasp, allowing quick, tool-free adjustments in 2mm increments—ideal for a secure and comfortable fit throughout the day.
